The Lure of the Image
group exhibition at Fotomuseum Winterthur, Winterthur, Switzerland
17.05. — 12.10.2025

exhibited project: A Life of Its Own: American Psycho
A Life of Its Own by Sara Bezovšek is a series of expertimental web-based works, large-scale wallpapers and installations, exploring how popular movies transform online into memes, GIFs and remixes.

The series trace how key scenes detach from their original context to become viral fragments that acquire new meanings and serve diverse social and p0li+ic4l agendas. For instance, American Psycho memes critique and celebrate t0x1c m4scul1n1ty, while The Lord of the Rings is co-opted by opposing p0li+ic4l id€ol0gi€s.

By organising the collected material from social media platforms and online forums according to the films’ original plot, Bezovšek accentuates the spread of memetic content and its ability to blend entertainment, id€ol0gi€s and p0li+ics.
